Onto Mauritius

Although we got a great sendoff from Mumbai, it was a relief to finally leave India for South Africa. The small province around Johannesburg, Gauteng, is responsible for 10% of the entire African economy (yes the whole continent), so there is a quite a lot going on here.

We landed in Johannesburg on a beautiful, clear day and were whisked away to the very beautiful Westcliff Hotel in the city's posh northern suburbs. They wanted $30 USD for internet so we didn't post anything because Ryan wouldn't pay that.

As we were tired from the overnight flight from Mumbai (in economy), we spent the majority of the day in our room before Shauna's friends from Beijing, Adrian & Devika, who now live in Johannesburg, met us for sundowners (evening drinks) at the hotel bar and then we went out for steaks and drinks. They showed us tremendous hospitality and we hope to meet up again as we pass through Jo'burg between other flights.

We're in the airport lounge and waiting for our Mauritius flight. Tropical paradise awaits as Mark Twain said, "Mauritius was made first, and then heaven; and heaven was copied after Mauritius”.

That view of the pool/city looks so relaxing! I want to party there!

I am surprised that Gauteng is so important economically. I agree with Ryan, $30 for internet access is definitely a ripoff. Anxious to hear about your next stop.
